Induction is Da Bomb

30 Nov

Okay, evidently while I’ve been having children, working, and skipping through life merrily…there has been a new product introduced that has completely blown me away.  I have always thought that there were only two ways to cook – gas or electric.  Since I am not a huge fan of coils or glass electric cooktops, I opted for gas in our new home.  Since we don’t have gas service on our land, we started looking at other options to installing a large propane tank.

That’s when we found induction cooktops.  These things are so cool!!!  From what we hear from salespeople, induction has been in Europe for 40+ years.  One salesperson told us that GE tried to introduce it to the U.S. 20 something years ago but they shelved it when it didn’t take off.  We found lots of options for induction that we didn’t even know existed.  They have 30″ and 36″ cooktops, freestanding ranges, single burner units, etc.  We’ve looked at models made by GE, Electrolux, Bosch, Kenmore, and KitchenAid — all very cool with similar features.

Ever wanted to cook an omelet on top of a $20 bill?  Yeah, me neither but it is intriguing…

Check out the link below put out by Fagor – please ignore the acting and super cool music, it’s the content that counts;-)

Welcome to Fresh Egg Build!

Fresh egg sign...

This is the sign at the entrance to the road we are building on...hence the name Fresh Egg Build. It's kind of in the country, kind of not.

Welcome to Fresh Egg Build!  This is a blog dedicated to our first owner-built home.  My husband Rusty and I are building a home we plan to raise our three children in…assuming we do a good job;-)  I refer to it as our “green home in the country” because it is just that — green.  The color green that is.  Rusty said I shouldn’t call it green because some people consider green a religion.  So if you’re reading this blog solely for the crunchiness, don’t get bent out of shape if our carbon footprint more closely resembles my size elevens.  While we are planning on incorporating many energy efficient features, this blog is more about documenting the process of building a home from a non-handy-girl’s point of view.  We want to remember the process and highlight the many contributors and craftspeople that go into making our house a home!
